OUR MISSION
Stories shape how we see ourselves, our communities, and the world around us. But who gets to tell those stories, who controls how they're shared, and who benefits from them matters.
BICC works to expand access to the resources, ownership and opportunities Black independent storytellers need to thrive, while championing stories that challenge harmful narratives, illuminate systemic inequities, and reflect the fullness of Black life. We believe lasting narrative change requires both empowering storytellers and strengthening the creative ecosystem that supports their work.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where Black communities have the power to shape their own narratives, where independent storytellers have the resources, ownership, and opportunities to thrive, and where their stories help transform how society understands race, identity, and justice.
A world where Black creativity is not only celebrated but economically sustained, where independent platforms and cultural institutions flourish, and where storytelling helps build a more just and equitable society.
ABOUT US
ADVANCE NARRATIVE CHANGE
Champion Black independent stories that challenge harmful narratives, illuminate systemic inequities, and reflect the fullness of Black life. We believe storytelling can shift public understanding and inspire cultural and systemic change.
EXPAND CREATIVE EQUITY
Increase access to capital, technology, education, ownership and distribution opportunities so Black independent storytellers have the resources and power to create, share, and sustain their work. Develop bold creators telling authentic stories that honor cultural truths and push creative boundaries.
STRENGTHEN THE ECOSYSTEM
Support the independent platforms, cultural institutions, festivals and organizations that help Black stories reach audiences. We work to build connections and collaborations that strengthen the infrastructure for Black storytelling.
BUILD COLLECTIVE POWER
Bring together creators, cultural workers, funders and community partners to share knowledge, build relationships, and create opportunities for collaboration and collective action.
Black.Indie.Ignite. is BICC's signature annual gathering, bringing together Black independent filmmakers, storytellers, and creative innovators for meaningful conversations, hands-on learning, collaboration, and community building.
Through intimate fireside conversations, creative labs, networking, and opportunities for direct support, the event helps creators build relationships, access resources, and move their work forward.
More than an event, Black.Indie.Ignite. is a space for strengthening the Black creative ecosystem and building collective power through storytelling.
